One Love – Part 3

Reggae 2One love

Welcome back. In parts 1 and 2, we covered the reggae rhythm, or skank, and the chorus. Now it’s time to check out the lead solo and fills. So grab your 4 or 10 hole C major diatonic harmonica and let’s get started.

Decide who would like to play the solo and listen to Bob Marley singing these lines in the original song. Those who have been playing the chorus can help with the fills. They come at the end of solo lines and help to fill the gaps.

One heart
The solo line uses single notes, while the fills once again use double-stops.  Purple tab is for 4 hole harmonicas. Orange tab is for 10 hole harmonicas. Each number tells you which hole to play. D is draw (breathe in) and B is blow (breathe out).

Soul Food iIn the original song, these fills appear at the end of the first and second solo vocal lines only. But there’s nothing stopping you adding one at the end of line three as well. The end of line 4 is very close to the chorus, so our fill may not fit there. Talk to your Harp Academy Teacher and decide how many fills you’d like to add. Flexibility is the name of the game.
